Our Social Stigma

This poem is supposed compare and contrast two friends; one struggling with coming out as gay, and another struggling with overcoming depression. While both share similar emotions and social stigmas, the way they react to each other is different.

  1. Kate, I really like this poem because for me it highlights that we all have our own personal struggles and social stigmas. Instead of our illnesses or sexual orientations being something that drives us apart, these two friends used it as something to draw them together. I also really like the visual positioning of the stanzas. Very nice. Thanks for posting it.

  2. Thank you for posting this, Kate. The visual layout makes it even more poignant. You weave three voices together (the two friends) with a center line of empathy (an omniscient narrator, perhaps our humanity)--for me that is the very pulse of this poem.
